The grain windmill on the Ochtruper Berg is one of the last "Wallholländer" type windmills built in the Dutch style. Wallhollander means that the windmill stands on a wall, the hull is rigid and only the canopy with the wings is turned into the wind. It is protected as a monument and is a landmark for the city of Ochtrup.
The mill was built in 1848. With the death of the windmills in Westphalia, the Ochtruper Mühle was also shut down in 1955, until the local history association began renovating the mill in 1972.

A thorough renovation took place between 1988 and 1992 to restore the functionality of the mountain windmill. Today windmillers from the Nobbenhuis family are working on the mill again.

The mountain windmill can be visited every Saturday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and by appointment. The contact person is Mr. Hermann Nobbenhuis (phone +49 2553 6823). From the mill on the Ochtruper Berg, the guest can enjoy a magnificent view of Ochtrup and the surrounding area - in good weather even as far as Bad Bentheim.

The Kornwindmühle from 1848 is a Dutch windmill. This type of windmill has a rotatable hood or cap and is therefore also called a cap windmill. It is the most modern development of the classic windmill, where only the upper part, the cap, has to be turned into the wind.

Depending on how you search, the mill has two names: either Bergwindmühle Ochtrup or Mühle Nobbenhuis (after the owners)
