Harchenburg Castle, also known colloquially as the "Old Castle," was a wooden castle. Surrounded by a circular wall of stone and earth, it provided additional protection for the lords and those under its protection. It was built around the end of the 13th century, but documented until 1444. Why the castle fell into disrepair remains unclear to this day. Locals believe it was caused by a fire.
