Karl Schmidt (born there in 1891) immortalized his motto in the facade of his house, which he decorated with painted-over sgraffito in 1930 for Nabburg's 1000th anniversary celebration. After studying architecture and attending art school, he worked in Nabburg from 1923 as a building appraiser for the Bavarian Insurance Chamber.
Driven by a "need to create," he transformed his house into a complete work of art, which the town inherited in 1971. Since 2001, it has served as a museum and cultural center.
