According to the information board with a trunk circumference of over 12 meters, the thickest tree in North Rhine-Westphalia. The trunk is almost completely split and hollow so that you can go in comfortably. Some struts for stabilization have been attached inside and the crown is also held by several ropes. If you look at the oak from the inside, you are surprised that the tree is still alive. Impressive!

Planted by Charlemagne 1000 years ago. A mega oak.

A real eye-catcher near Borlinghausen. A plaque next to the oak gives more information.

          ...
The monumental oak was already designated as a natural monument in 1935. It is one of the thickest oak trees in Germany. It almost seems as if two oak trees have grown together. But it is probably a single tree with a low-lying onion.

History along the way ... and also simply impressive to see the huge trunk with all its age-related scars.
