After the Seven Years' War, the hunting grounds of the Saxon electors got a new face. The forest was cleared, vineyards, meadows and orchards were created. The orchard meadow on the slope opposite the Birus stone is a reminder of this. Anyone who climbs the meadow path between the fruit trees and walks the orchards discovery path around the Merbitz vineyards will be rewarded with one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the entire city to Saxon Switzerland. This path, laid out in 2009, leads around the Merbitz vineyards. Unique in the Saxon wine-growing region, you are largely surrounded by walls. These walls were built to protect against game and the cold winds. Along this idyllic circular hiking trail there are display boards that provide information about fruit and wine growing as well as the typical Plänerstein.
