Ratingen's most famous church is St. Peter and Paul. The foundations of the early Gothic building date back to the 8th century. The two east towers were built in the 11th or 12th century. The main nave dates mainly from the year 1300. Inside the church, especially the three bells and the tower monstrosity are worth seeing. Sculptures of Baroque equipment are now in the Museum Ratingen.

The elevated parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Ratingen has dominated the center of the city for centuries. It stands at the intersection of the town's main streets. The parish church of Ratingen, the "ecclesia", and its parish are first mentioned in a document from the Werden monastery, which dates from the first half of the 12th century.
