Aspel Castle was one of the earliest structures in the Rhineland. It was first mentioned between 1020 and 1024.
The Schliss is located in the Haldern district of Rees.
The monastery will be inhabited by the Daughters of the Holy Cross until late autumn 2022. The younger sisters to continue the convent are missing.
The monastery has been owned by the Order since 1850.
What will happen to Haus Aspel after moving out is still uncertain.
