Detached, medieval city gate, located west of Buiten Kruisvest and with varying destinations over time. Built as a city gate, later used as a caretaker's house and war history museum (until approximately 1988). There are now plans to permanently house the Open Monument Day youth project here.

The oldest Kruispoort was built near the second wall (1297-1304) and was replaced in 1366. Philip van Artevelde destroyed that gate when he took the city with the Gentenaars in 1382. Gate number three followed in 1400. Only the two heavy towers with their narrow passage and two octagonal turrets have been preserved. Charles V, Napoleon, the German army, they all walked into Bruges through this gate.

The first gate (1297-1304) on this spot was part of the second Bruges city wall from 1297. A new gate was erected in 1366, designed by the master masons Mathias Saghen and Jan Slabberd, who also built the Smedenpoort and the Ezelpoort. built. This gate was demolished in 1382, after the capture of the city by the inhabitants of Ghent, under the leadership of Philip van Artevelde.

The Bruges city magistrate decided to build the current gate in 1400. The master masons Jan van Oudenaerde and Maarten van Leuven were appointed as designers and builders. By 1406 the building was finished.

The original complex consisted of a main building (two heavy round towers with weather walls, a front hall and a high superstructure), with a front gate, eight towers and two bridges. In 1760 the front gate was demolished and not rebuilt.

Near the Kruispoort, two Kruispoort bridges cross the Ringvaart.

After the Second World War and until 1988, the Kruispoort housed a modest War Museum, while a part was also occupied by a caretaker. The (reborn) Bruges fencers association, called Sint-Michielsgilde or Hallebardiers, has been located in the Kruispoort since the end of the twentieth century.
