The church, inaugurated in 1873, whose pastor was Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 1931 and 1932, became the site of the Environmental Library from 1986. Opposition events such as dissertations critical of the regime, exhibitions and concerts took place in the town hall and in the church. In the basement of the vicarage, the opposition publication "Umweltblätter" was produced with a small printing system. After the GDR state power stormed the opposition meeting in the autumn of 1987, vigils were held in the church, which were successfully accompanied by GDR-wide and international protests, so that detainees were released and the opposition network was finally strengthened.
Also at Zionskirche, Info-Stele provides audio information about the place of the revolution.
