Bike Touring Highlight
The church, inaugurated in 1873, whose pastor was Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 1931 and 1932, became the location of the environmental library in 1986. Opposition events such as readings critical of the regime, exhibitions and concerts were held in the parish rooms and in the church. In the basement of the rectory, the opposition publication “Umweltblätter” was produced using a small printing system. After the GDR state power stormed the opposition meeting point in autumn 1987, vigils took place in the church, which were successfully accompanied by GDR-wide and international protests, so that prisoners were released and the opposition network was ultimately strengthened.
At the Zionskirche, too, an info stele provides audio information about the site of the revolution.
