The need to care for the sick, the poor, the needy and the infirm ... is at least as old as the city. In the oldest known Beeskow document from 1272, a "curia hospitalis" is reported, ie an infirmary .... This hospital was run by the German Order of Knights, .. The house was in what would later be the Fürstenwald suburb. Due to dilapidation, the St. Nicolaus Hospital and the associated chapel, built in 1486, were demolished in 1602 and rebuilt in front of the Luckauer Tor along with a small wooden church. Such systems were built outside the city walls to protect against contagious diseases. 150 years later - in 1753 - a new hospital building had to be built due to dilapidation, as it still stands today on Breitscheidstrasse as the DRK's senior citizens' meeting place. The chapel, which was also demolished, could not be rebuilt due to lack of funds.

The Holy Spirit Hospital was first mentioned in 1603. It is a single-storey building with a hipped mansard roof and is a listed building.
The park south of the hospital used to house a small chapel and the hospital's cemetery (god's acre). Some gravestones and memorial stones still remind us of the former purpose of this site, including the grave of the French city treasurer in the service of the city of Beeskow, Jean Pierre Barthélemy. The Soviet honorary cemetery was established in 1948 on a part of the area to the northwest of the old cemetery.
