The normal route to the Schochenspitze leads from Vilsalpsee on route 425 up to Landsberger Hütte (1805 m) and from there on route 421 to the northeast into the eastern Lachenjoch and the summit. An alternative normal route is the ascent from Neunerköpfle. This can be achieved with a cable car. From there a high path runs to the Strindenscharte (1870 m) and on the Saalfelder Höhenweg under the Sulzspitze to the Gappenfeldscharte and on to the summit. A longer approach is also possible from Rauth through the Weißenbach Valley up to the Gappenfeld Notländ.
There are also pathless and unmarked ascent options, some of which also require climbing. The direct ascent from Traualpsee has difficulty III. The climbing over the north ridge moves in the fourth degree.
