The trail starts as grasland and then transitions into a real trail. Per mid April of course still extended streteches in snow cover, which was a fun plus. Just before approaching the frozen lake it was easily waist deep, if not more.
Was short on time, otherwise would've continued via Fern lake for a loop hike.
