Around 1900, at the beginning of the Tiegstraat, along the now disappeared footpath that connected to the Kaperij, there were still seven modest houses that were called Djabs. The houses were built of clay and had thatched roofs. The origin of the name Djabs is unknown. Before World War II, a lemonade factory was established along the Tiegstraat that was named Tiegbronnen. The water came there, flushed from a verge, and was of exceptional quality. Many people from the Bosgat district came there every day to stock up on the clear water.
