The Gans und Rheingrafenstein nature reserve is located in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The approximately 200 hectare area was placed under nature protection in 1985!
In the area are the 321.7m high goose, the 290.8m high Haidberg and the 136m high porphyry rock formation Rheingrafenstein.
The purpose of protection is the preservation of the area
    * because of the geological and morphological nature for natural history reasons
    * as a habitat of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence and less common in their existence of threatened animal species, in particular amphibians and reptiles for scientific reasons and
    * because of its particular scenic beauty and character.

The approximately 200 hectare area, which was placed under nature conservation in 1985, extends east of the former town of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg, which has now been incorporated into Bad Kreuznach. The fact that "rare and endangered species" are found there incognito doesn't really make it any nicer for hikers. Which ones are they, what are they called? How can you recognize them?

The much-vaunted "Mediterranean" character of the goose is also mainly just advertising: the service tree is native, the French rock maple is widespread along the Nahe, Moselle and Middle Rhine, and the ash-leaved dittany is at home throughout southern Germany.

What remains is a wonderfully stony, dry landscape with sparse and small vegetation - isn't that enough?
