Science World (officially called TELUS World of Science Vancouver since 2005) is a Science Center concept-based museum that displays permanent and changing interactive exhibits.
The museum is housed in a geodesic dome designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller at the eastern end of False Creek. The dome was one of the main attractions of the World Expo 86 and was then rebuilt for 19.1 million CAD. The opening of the museum took place in 1988, and a year later the OMNIMAX cinema was added to the top of the dome.
On July 20, 2005, the museum took on its present name after Canadian telecommunications company Telus donated $ 9 million and acquired the naming rights. In public, the new name encounters rejection. The old name is much more common and the nearby SkyTrain station is also called Main Street-Science World.
