Alusuisse was founded in Zurich in 1888 under the name Aluminum Industrie Aktiengesellschaft (AIAG for short) and built the first aluminum plant in Europe here in Neuhausen.
In 1944, the factory in Neuhausen was converted and expanded into a research center. In 1954, the aluminum smelter was demolished; up to 300 people work here.
Alusuisse donated the green space to the city to beautify the facility here at the waterfall.

Here, in 1888, the Aluminium-Industrie-Aktien-Gesellschaft (Aluminium Industry Corporation) was founded, harnessing the hydropower of the impressive Rhine Falls to operate Europe's first aluminium plant.

A visit to Neuhausen am Rheinfall is a journey back in time, where modern technology and historic industrial sites meet breathtaking natural scenery. The mighty Rhine Falls, one of Europe's largest waterfalls, offers not only a spectacular natural display but also a historical backdrop to the beginnings of the aluminium industry. Here, you can experience the power of water up close and learn about the historical significance of this place.

The first aluminum smelter in Germany was in Rheinfelden. Neuhausen am Rheinfall is even considered the cradle of the European aluminum industry. To use the water power of the Rhine Falls, the Neuhausen Aluminum Industry Share Company was founded in 1888 with the aim of extracting aluminum. In 1945 aluminum production was shut down.
Neuhausen is one of the oldest research centers in the aluminum industry.
