The Döbern Mill, documented as early as 1766, marked the beginning of several watermills in the Malxe lowlands. The Malxe River, which fed the mill pond, set the mill wheels in motion. Products such as flour, semolina, and bran, as well as lumber, were produced. With the development of new coal fields at the "Providentia" mine in 1929, including the mill pond, the water supply came to a standstill. When the mine was closed in 1932, a significantly larger amount of water became available by flooding the remaining pits. Therefore, in the early 1940s, the yellow clinker building of the new mill was built, with electricity replacing hydropower. Source: Geopark information board.
