Cycling

The watch tower on a small hill is a solid, 20 meter high round tower. The lower part dates from the 14th, the upper part from the 16th century. The tower has a round arch entrance with the Erfurt coat of arms. The tower was part of the system of observation towers that the city of Erfurt built around it (Wikipedia).

The medieval watch tower is the landmark of Niederzimmer. You can find it about 0.5 km northeast of the village on the "Wartenberg". The tower belongs to a former defensive ring of 16 towers around the city of Erfurt.
