Sigulda New Castle was built in 1878 in the Neo-Gothic style as residence for the Ducal Kropotkin family who are descended from the Grand princes of Smolenks.

The manor center began to develop in the 17th century. None of those buildings survived, but there are a few remaining 18th and 19th century buildings built during the ownership of the Von Borghs and Kropotkins.

During WWII, the New Castle was used as a headquarters for the Nord division of the German army. Just outside the castle is a bunker facility, btw. After the war, the USSR Council of Ministers turned it into a recreation house for high state officials.

Since 2003 it now holds the Sigulda District Council.
