Only with the refugees did numerous Catholics come to Bordesholm after the Second World War. And they built - first of all! - a church. The foundation stone of the Church of St. Mary was laid in 1949, the inauguration only one year later. In the holy year 1950 - every 25 years the Catholic Church celebrates such a year - money was collected from pilgrims in Rome to build a settlement intended for the refugees from the east. This settlement, the construction of which began in 1954, was therefore given the name »Anno Santo settlement«. And even if it is no longer just Catholics who live there, these houses are still popularly known as the "Catholic Settlement".
