Here is a tree with slightly more mistletoe than in other trees in the immediate vicinity. Those who have a thing for mistletoe will certainly get their money's worth in this region. Mistletoe is usually bound to calcareous soils, which is why you will find so many in the region of Tongeren, South Limburg and the like. But in recent years there has been a clear expansion of mistletoe to the Kempen without that traditional link with calcareous soils. Mistletoe loves trees, in fact, they cannot live without them because they are semi-parasites. The mistletoe takes nutrients and water from the tree and will weaken the tree in times of water shortage. But if the tree dies, the life of the mistletoe is also over, while this plant can live up to 50 years. Usually the tree can live with the mistletoe for a while.
