The Leiningen school forest
The Leininger Gymnasium is a general education high school based in Grünstadt and the owner of a 155 hectare school forest!

How did that happen?

around 1120: Höningen monastery was founded by Count Emich II of Leiningen; The monastery was richly endowed with goods and handed over to the Augustinian canons
In the course of development, the monastery also acquired forest properties in its surroundings.
1573: The monastery was converted into a Latin school during the Reformation; Monastery property is transferred to the newly founded Latin school.
From now on, the school forest will serve to maintain the school and pay the teachers
1729: destroyed in the turmoil of the 30 Years' War, Count Georg Hermann von Altleiningen refounded the monastery school in Grünstadt
1962: after various re-dedications, the school is now called "Staatliches Leininger-Gymnasium Grünstadt" - the school forest has remained at the school to this day.
