An English landscape park with magnificent, old trees stretches around the former Merkel factory owner's villa, which now houses a renowned museum for modern art: the Merkelpark Esslingen.

It is worth taking a stroll through the park of the Villa Merkel after visiting the gallery with its contemporary art, for example, and walking a bit along the Neckarweg if you feel like it.

The Merkel and Kienlin sheep's wool spinning mill was built on the Pulverwasen around 1870. In the immediate vicinity, Commercial Councillor Oskar Merkel built a villa with a landscape park.

In 1970, the wool factory with the villa and landscape park became the property of the city of Esslingen, with the stipulation that the factory site would be converted into a public park after demolition. This was completed in 1982 according to the plans of the Parks Department.

The center of the complex is the open engine canal, which flows into a lake with fountains. The old and new Merkelpark have grown together into one unit over the last few decades. The Färbertörlesweg children’s playground is located nearby
