Just on the territory of the municipality of Hoeselt, and close to the Alden-Biesen commandery on the other side of the E313, lie the elongated valley grounds of the Demer. This concerns the area between Hoeselt and Herenelderen. The open valley grounds that were once so typical are now hardly visible. As in many parts of Haspengouw, these wet grounds were planted with poplars for years. In the meantime, many of these trees have been felled, creating space again for native, wet forest types such as ash-alder forests and spring forests.
