The moated castle on the Freiberger Mulde was first mentioned in a document from the year 1487. In the centuries that followed, the property changed hands several times and was continually renovated and expanded.

The Podelwitz moated castle is located directly on the Freiberger Mulde in the Podelwitz district of the city of Colditz in the Free State of Saxony. The listed castle is located on the Muldentalradwanderweg and can also be reached from the Mulde by water hikers (via a staircase).
In the castle is the homeland room Podelwitz of the Knochenmuß family, which shows a collection of household items, economic goods and postcards. It is one of the most comprehensive collections of this kind in all of Saxony. There is also a boarding house and a meeting center in the chateau. There is a restaurant in the former farm building next to the castle.
