The gatehouse, which was renovated at considerable expense in 1993/94, is considered a landmark of the village alongside the fortified church built in 1520. The favorable traffic location on the old trade route from Königshofen via St. Bernhard to the Werra Valley was of great economic, political and ecclesiastical importance.
