Gutenbergplatz is located in the Weststadt, between Sophienstrasse and Goethestrasse, on Nelkenstrasse and Gutenbergstrasse. It and its surroundings are listed as a monument as a whole [1]. The Krautkopf fountain and the Pelikan fountain are located on the square. The "fountain on Gutenbergplatz" was designed by Friedrich Ratzel on behalf of the city of Karlsruhe from 1905 onwards. It was completed at the end of September 1908 after Ratzel's suicide. In 1940, the bronze ribs and the Krautkopf were melted down for the armaments industry. The fountain was reactivated in August 1952. On the initiative of the Weststadt Citizens' Association, a reconstruction of the bronze parts made of copper was built between 1960 and August 1962, and the re-inauguration was celebrated on August 5, 1962. When there is no market, most of the square is a car park. But even on these days it is nice because of the surrounding buildings and the places to stop for refreshments.
There is a toilet block on the south-west corner.

Gutenbergplatz, completed in 1904, is considered one of the most beautiful squares in Karlsruhe; it is not for nothing that Gutenbergplatz and its surroundings are listed as a monument as a whole.
