The entire region is always worth a trip. Especially with children especially Haut Koenigsbourg is highly recommended!

It is not an "insider tip" the destinations can be quite full, in good weather. But it is still worth it to have visited once!

Good link for an overview: selestat-haut-koenigsbourg.com/en

The "Monkey Mountain" is a beautiful loop in the forest. In this forest live freely around the 250 Barbary apes. At the entrance, each visitor receives a handful of popcorn, with which the monkeys can be fed directly from the hand. There are regular feedings where further information is well communicated by a guide. Despite the excitement it is very nice to observe and feed the monkey families.
Infrastructure is well proportioned to such "attractions" (parking, toilet, snack)

Greifvogelwarte "Adlerburg": Analogously, there is also a bird of prey visit with great air show of the beautiful animals! The whole thing in front of a breathtaking panorama. Again: No secret tip but well worth seeing!

Burg HautKoenigsburg: A very impressive castle with a very interesting history! During a Fanil excursion, she certainly breaks the framework that you have to give her (in time) to fully visit this very elaborately restored castle. But there is a fixed circular route, which provides even with children in a manageable time quite interesting impressions - and a unique panorama!

Alsace is much more than this (worth seeing) HotSpot! It takes above all time and peace to get to know the very special charm of this region.

The Hohkönigsburg (French Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg is the most visited castle in the region and one of the most frequented tourist destinations in France, attracting around 500,000 visitors each year.
In 1899, the city of Schlettstadt donated the castle to Kaiser Wilhelm II, who had it restored in the years 1901-1908 by the Berlin architect and castle researcher Bodo Ebhardt. The new old castle was inaugurated in the year of completion with a big celebration, festive music and historical costumes. The construction had cost over two million marks, which had to be paid in large part by Alsace-Lorraine - the donation to the emperor, the region came so expensive to stand.

One of the most visited destinations in France is rebuilt by Kaiser Wilhelm II Haut-Koenigsbourg in Alsace. It is located between Strasbourg and Colmar near Selestat (Schlettstadt) on a 757 m high mountain cone on the eastern slope of the Vosges.

The original castle was built in the 12th century, then renewed in 1480, lit in the Thirty Years' War. In 1899, the city of Schlettstadt donated the castle to the German Emperor Wilhelm II, who rebuilt it as a 15th-century knight's castle.

A visit to the Hochkönigsburg is highly interesting and should definitely be on the agenda when visiting Alsace. You just have to be aware of the fact that you are not looking at an original medieval castle here, but rather a - very beautiful but imaginative - extension of the imperial period.

The castle towers high above Sélestat. Here you have a beautiful view over the Rhine valley.

Nice tour with natural trails to the castle. After that forest roads thereby a bit lengthy.

    Entrance fee 9 EUR (3/2022).
One of the most visited attractions in FR dating back to the 12th c. was built by the Staufers. The sheer size alone is overwhelming. Its walls, towers, keep and drawbridge make it a medieval showcase castle. The Armory Hall, the Emperor's Hall and the chambers are just a few of the highlights. This medieval castle was restored by German Emperor Wilhelm II.

Nice big castle with a great view. The tours are currently only available in French. Nevertheless, you can walk the circular route through the castle alone for 9 euros and there are boards with explanations in French, German and English everywhere. In my opinion, a day trip to the castle alone is not worth it, but in connection with the Affenberg, or a hike to one of the beautiful little towns in the area, it is wonderful!
