The Königteich and the surrounding green space on Königstrasse were laid out in 1930. Originally, the construction of a pavilion was also planned on the west side of the Königsteich, but the city of Hildesheim did not have the financial means for this at the time due to the global economic crisis. In the 1950s there were intermittent plans to drain the pond and build on the site, but these were never implemented due to protests from local residents.
