The three Loretto chapels south of the market town of Oberstdorf have been built one after the other since the 15th century and have been the destination of pilgrimages since time immemorial. Every year, the mountain pilgrimage from Holzgau in Tyrol comes here via the Mädelejoch. The Oberstdorf community makes a "response pilgrimage" to Holzgau every year (counter-pilgrimage didn't seem like the right word to me 😉).

The Apach chapel was built in the 15th century. It stands in close proximity to the Loreto Chapel. It offers a small prayer room with beautiful murals.
