Luther Memorial Stone at Himmelpforte Monastery

This is where Martin Luther met his spiritual mentor Johann von Staupitz on August 6, 1516. The "Luther was here" campaign collects various places in Saxony-Anhalt where Martin Luther stayed, is said to have stayed, or where Luther legends are associated. The Luther stone was erected on October 30, 1917 by order of Christian Ernst zu Stolberg - Wernigerode.

Himmelpforten was visited by Martin Luther in 1516, where he met with his brother and friend, the Vicar General Johann von Staupitz.
There is no evidence that the sale of indulgences was discussed.
