The lake, which is around 500m long today, was created in 1934 when the Grünbach was dammed by the construction of a wall. At that time this was used for ice production and later also as a fish farm. You should plan 20 minutes for a leisurely circumnavigation (1.1 km). Due to its wonderful location, it was decided in the 1960s to make the lake accessible to tourism. As a result, today visitors can take a romantic gondola ride with a rowboat on the Amselsee from April to October. The "evening gondolas", which the Rathener Schifferverein organizes on various weekends in the summer months, is particularly popular. But the lake is also a magnet for many ice skaters in winter.
