Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian (Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano), Mendrisio

A beautiful church in an elevated position compared to the main square of Mendrisio. Relatively recent, built between 1851 and 1875. The town you pass through is also worth a visit at the beginning or end of your trip.

In an elevated position above the main square of Mendrisio stands the monumental church of Saints Cosmos and Damian. The building with a central floor plan was built between 1851 and 1875 according to plans by Luigi Fontana from Muggio. The octagonal dome is surmounted by a tambour. In front of the facade there is a portico, above which the bell tower rises. Inside the church you can admire the magnificent tabernacle by Primo Lezzani from Mendrisio and Giovanni Gaffuri from Como (1670).
Diagonally opposite the church is the medieval tower (12th century), in which a Latin inscription from the 2nd century is built: "P. V. DROMON T.F.I." (Publio Valerio Dromone orders in his will).
