Where the Palatinate and Rheinhessen meet, the Zellertal extends east-west over a length of almost 20 km. Unique in Germany, the two largest German wine-growing regions meet in one valley (Rheinhessen and Pfalz). Historically, this is the result of the division of the valley in 1816. The western part belonged to the Bavarian Palatinate and the eastern part to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The largest mountain in the Palatinate, the Donnersberg with a height of 687 m, watches over the valley with its local communities, some of which nestle along the Pfrimm river, but also on the slopes.Source: zellertalweg.de
