De Boterwaag is a weighing house in Nijmegen on the Grote Markt, which was built between 1612 and 1613 according to a design by Cornelis Janssen van Delft. The Renaissance forms are related to the style of Hendrick de Keyser. The building was restored in 1886 by Jan Jacob Weve.

The city car was on the right (west side) of the building. On the first floor there was a meat hall with gates through which carts and carts could enter and three ribbed vaults on pillars. Some houses were also temporarily set up in the building. Until 1885, Nijmegen's military guard was on the top floor.

You can't miss this historic building, the city café and restaurant De Waagh, whose history dates back to 1612. It's Nijmegen's focal point on the Grote Markt, a homage to the Renaissance and a celebration of four centuries of history.

For many decades, merchants were obliged to have their goods weighed in the weighing building. The weight of the goods determined the amount of taxes they had to pay to the local authorities. De Waagh survived all stormy times, even a heavy bombing raid during the Second World War.
