The Wintam Sea Lock or simply the Wintam Lock forms the connection between the Brussels-Scheldt Sea Canal and the Scheldt.

    The Wintam Sea Lock

The lock complex is located on the territory of the municipality of Bornem near the hamlet of Wintam. This Klein-Brabant municipality is located in the province of Antwerp, one of the five provinces of the Flemish Region. The lock complex also forms the connection to the so-called Northern and Southern Islands. These two islands were initially intended as an industrial area but, after years of discussion, are now a nature reserve. Due to specific environmental factors and their location, the islands form an irreplaceable biotope for numerous birds, which choose this area to breed, hibernate or rest during migration.

The Wintam Sea Lock provides access for seagoing, inland shipping and pleasure craft to the Sea Canal and thus guarantees the accessibility of the Port of Brussels for ships up to 4,500 tons and pusher convoys up to 9,000 tons. Further transit to the Walloon Region is assured via the Brussels-Charleroi Canal.

It's worth it to watch the big boats passing through the lock
