Lenin Monument Nohra

The large stone statue is one of the last remnants of the garrison at Nohra Airfield, where Soviet forces were stationed from 1945 to 1992. When the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft Thuringia demolished the abandoned facility between 2008 and 2010, a few objects were spared because of their historical documentary value. While individual buildings were simply left standing in a state of advanced decay, it was decided to completely renovate the monument for the figure of Lenin. It remains a freely accessible testimony for future generations of the struggle against imperialism, the presence of Soviet armed forces in Germany, the Cold War and the attempt to realize the Marxist-Leninist ideals.
