Behind it is a huge, dark building complex.
We have unknowingly reached the Oorlogsmuseum Overloon, the war museum in the Overloon dunes.
The entire museum area is dedicated to the liberation from German occupation by the Americans in October 1944.
A bicycle bridge, which is in fact closed to pedestrians, leads into the back of the huge building and out again at the front. Whether people on bikes can whizz through the entire building in between is a mystery to us because of the early hour.
Then the next tank is near the museum café.
Behind it is a bouncy castle. A second one is just being filled with air. Bizarre scenes continue on the still deserted site: A martial, realistic-looking soldier figure with a rifle in his hands storms in front of the seating areas of the “De Papegaai” café.
