In October 1944, the Battle of Overloon took place as a follow-up to Operation Market Garden. This battle is also known as 'The Battle in the Shadow' and 'The Forgotten Battle'. A fierce battle between the Allied and German troops, with major losses on both sides.

The American 7th Armored Division (nicknamed The Lucky 7th) was one of the parties in this battle. To honor the division, a group of volunteers restored a Sherman tank. The restored tank has been added to the monument of the 7th Armored Division on Museumplein in Overloon.
