The quarry pond is a bird sanctuary and therefore fenced all around. If the trees and bushes are really green, you probably won't be able to see too much of them. On the road between Monheim and Leichlingen there is a discarded excavator with geese on the boom, which probably functions as an observation post - you would have to find out how accessible it is on the Monheim website.

The Monheimer Baggersee, today "Monbagsee", was created in a former gravel and sand pit. The lake is a nature reserve, but released for water sports (club). The Demag crane (from 1928), which is now an industrial monument and is not accessible, is located on Opladener Strasse in the north. On the crane itself, however, there is a lookout house, which offers a view of the Monbagsee.
