The Giesinger Berg has always been a dangerous stretch. The most prominent traffic victim was the entrepreneur and inventor Joseph von Utzschneider. His carriage overturned on January 31, 1840 in the "Loherwirt curve". In 1888 the old Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche had to give way to the straightening of the street.

The Giesinger Heilig-Kreuz Church with its 95 meter tower and its exposed location at the height of the Giesinger Berg is a dominant point on the right bank of the Isar and the last completely preserved neo-Gothic church in Munich. The foundation stone for the neo-Gothic church was laid in 1866 and inaugurated in 1886.
