The variation in Hoogheide will increase even further by increasing the proportion of native tree species. Older Corsican pines will be cut down. Rows of trees native to the region will eventually replace the current rows of poplars. This strengthens the small-scale landscape. At the edges of the forest we create less sharp boundaries between 'forest' and 'non-forest'. This brings more light into the forest. This offers more opportunities for numerous birds, small mammals, insects, butterflies, etc. In addition, heathland restoration is also being done.
