It is a winter lime tree (Tilia cordata), which was first referred to as the "millennial linden tree" on a historical postcard. It is certainly not 1,000 years old, it was probably planted there by monks in the 13th century. At that point they had dammed the Nuthe and built a water mill. The linden tree was probably planted to provide a landmark for the mill. The mill later fell into disrepair and inspired the Schönhannchen legend. Today the linden tree is a registered natural monument. In February 2014, the linden tree had a trunk circumference of around 7.13 m at a height of 1.30 m.Source: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tausendjahr_Linde_(Luckenwalde)
