One of the last inland dunes in Europe that was still actively migrating until a few years ago. It is located in a former military training area, much of which is now a nature reserve. The nature there has a steppe and desert character and therefore appears quite surreal. The dune is easily accessible via the Wurzelberg hiking trail, which leads to the dune. Along the way, there's a beautiful viewing platform for a picnic, from which you can take in the surroundings. Definitely worth a trip.

The inland dune is located directly in the nature reserve, which is also strictly protected under European law as a flora fauna habitat and SPA bird sanctuary. It is part of the Jüterbog wilderness area. In the entire area there is a clear order to protect nature and guests. The dune is located on a former military training area that was used for more than 150 years. She is loaded with ordnance.
A designated hiking trail free of explosive ordnance leads along the dune. The entire wilderness area is home to many rare species such as wolves, Bechstein's bats and hoopoes. So that they have an undisturbed retreat in the wilderness area, we only observe them from the hiking trails. Moving on the dunes, be it on foot, by bike or any other means of transport is therefore not permitted.

A hiking dune with amazing dimensions. From the platform to the east you have a good view of the dune.
