The history of the Luckenwalde volunteer fire brigade originally began with inadequacies in the fire extinguishing equipment. In 1867, for example, when there was a major fire in the Gera colony (today Käthe-Kollwitz-Strasse), the citizens who were required to put out the fire refused to obey the commander, left the fire site in the lurch and simply went home. This led to an open complaint from the citizens to the Lord District Administrator. However, this sad time brought Luckenwalde the man who got the fire extinguishing system back on track with enthusiasm and energy:

In 1875, Mayor Friedländer had the entire citizenry of Luckenwalde line up street by street to record the team lists and created a control system using number plates. At the same time, he recognized the usefulness of a volunteer fire brigade and founded the volunteer gymnastics fire brigade with the participation of the members of the men's gymnastics club. It was not until 1880 that the military broke away from the gymnastics club.

    ...

On November 25, 2016, the new fire station at Hermann-Henschel-Weg 112 was inaugurated.

The fire station of the volunteer fire brigade is named in honor of Ernst Kloß. Franz-Fritz Ernst Kloß (September 4, 1907 – April 12, 1933 in Luckenwalde) was a boxing athlete from Luckenwalde and a self-confessed anti-fascist. He died on April 12, 1933 as a result of an assassination attempt by SA men.
