Velsecke Castle was first mentioned in 1180. In 1234 it was destroyed.
From 1241 to 1246 it was rebuilt as a replacement under the name Gleichenstein, presumably by Heinrich I von Gleichen.

In the future, Gleichenstein Castle will be the world's first hemp castle with a competence center for all things hemp.
