The sculpture represents three characters from his oeuvre: the plague sufferer Rochus with a dog that licks his wounds; soldier Johan towers above him and looks in the direction of Hamme. On the side of the water you can see Leda and the ferryman from the novel 'De Veerman en de Jonkvrouw'.
