The stream rises in the forest near the Eschenhof and around five kilometers southeast of Höfen, a district of the city of Monschau. Around one kilometer from the source, federal road 258 leads from Höfen to Schleiden in the south-west. The stream flows consistently to the northeast in a narrow meadow, interrupted in sections by forest bars, on the upper reaches of around 940 meters, initially through the Püngelbachtal nature reserve. He runs through Beckmanns Weiher and then further along the Schraufweg. To the south of Erkensruhr, a district of the municipality of Simmerath, it finally flows into the Erkensruhr from the left.
