Steinernes Haus Hunting Lodge

The stone house has been in the Wohnbach forest for decades.Construction of the stone house began as early as 1856.Contrary to what one might suspect, the application 'for the construction of a forest workers' shelter' was not submitted by the community of Wohnbach, but by the community of Wölfersheim.
At that time, the Wölfersheimers had leased the rights to use the forest from the Wohnbachers.Construction was completed in the same year.
Unlike today, one was dependent on local building materials. The stones for the house come from a ditch next to the Roman road.The roof of the building had to be replaced as early as 1900. Since that time the house has also been used as a hunting lodge.The hunting tenants Julius Philippi, Hermann Rückeisen (great-grandfather of the current tenant), Otto Wolf, Georg Wolf, Paul Philippi, Norbert Körber, Erwin Schröder and Theo Bauer continued this tradition until 2017.
In 2018, today's hunting tenant Werner Wolf took over the keys to the stone house from the community, which was no longer in good condition.
The chimney and roof threatened to collapse. There were also cracks in the walls.
They tried to break open the windows and doors and caused great damage in the process.In order to be able to carry out the forest Christmas, which has existed since 1987, in the future, a renovation had to take place.
After a short discussion between the municipality and the hunting tenant, a solution was quickly found.
The municipality paid for the renovation of the roof and the hunting tenants paid for the renovation of the building inside and outside.
After the roof structure had been renewed, a modern sheet metal roof was installed, which also spans the adjacent storage room.The municipality invested a total of around 14,000 euros.
In connection with the services of the hunting tenants, the small house now shines in new splendor.
