The Hessian species protection program for European pond turtles was started back in 1999. Here, many official, but also voluntary employees are committed to nature conservation. Together with the Frankfurt Zoo and the Opel Zoo in Kronberg, endangered European pond turtles are bred, raised and later released into the wild.
